Mary Lou Moramarco IBCLC RLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with over two decades of experience working with thousands of breastfeeding families both in a hospital as well as the community setting. Mary Lou organizes conferences, lectures for professional organizations, consults with companies to set up Corporate Lactation programs, teaches breastfeeding classes, leads support groups, and sees private clients all over New Jersey and sometimes New York.

She is a member, the past President and past trustee of New Jersey Breastfeeding Coalition (NJBC), the founder of New Jersey IBCLC Association, a member of International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) and the Monmouth Ocean County Breastfeeding Consortium (MOBC). She has been a volunteer breastfeeding advocate as an accredited La Leche League Leader since 1993.

Mary Lou is fantastic at helping families reach their breastfeeding goals by answering the simple questions with a little side of humor about common challenges. But it is when those challenges become real barriers to breastfeeding that she taps into her labyrinth of knowledge and clinical skills and is very successful in supporting families to overcome most issues.

Mary Lou has appeared on radio as an expert and advocate for breastfeeding, promoting it’s importance as a health issue for babies, mothers, families and society as a whole. Most recently she was interviewed by New Jersey 101.5’s Dino Flammio regarding New Jersey’s breastfeeding rates.

Mary Lou has been working tirelessly with New Jersey Legislators to gain licensure and insurance coverage for Lactation Consultants and to improve the access to care she believes all families deserve. She said, "I see the disparities in breastfeeding rates and support in many communities. I love supporting families on an individual level but so many cannot afford to pay out of pocket. I am hoping this will be the year we get this done. With licensure, Medicaid as well as most insurance companies will be able to recognize and cover International Board Certified Lactation Consultants as the premier in breastfeeding care and services.” She is excited about current legislation that is set to strengthen the Federal Law to improve insurance companies compliance in NJ to cover these vital services.

But the pinnacle of her career and greatest honor as a conference magician was to aid in the construction and operation of a 12 foot by 40-foot cardboard birthday cake. This cake hid the Seven Founding Mothers of La Leche League International. At the opening of the conference, the cake had to open to present the founders to the awaiting 3,500 person audience at the 50th Anniversary of La Leche League International Conference in Chicago. “I felt so privileged to have been able to meet each of the founders. One of my responsibilities was to crochet each of them a shawl, I also had to be sure that each of them had a nice strong escort and to assure them that the cake was not going to collapse and entrap them in a maze of plastic piping and duct tape!”

“I just wanted to say thank you for coming to my house today. It was extremely helpful. I’ve fed my daughter now in both positions that you showed me and it was a much more pleasant experience for both of us. Again, I really appreciate your expertise and advice.”
